Carmel-Kings Academy baseball

Central Coast Section Division III Semifinals
Wednesday's game
No. 6 Carmel (18-10) vs. No.  2 The King's Academy (22-6) at Washington Park, Santa Clara, 4 p.m.
After missing the postseason for the first time in 25 years last spring, the Padres are one win away from playing for their ninth section title.
Christian Stapleton has been tearing up pitching all year for Carmel, hitting over .600 with 10 home runs. He tripled and doubled, driving in four in the teams 12-4 win over Thomas More.
Ace Dylan Houpt tossed just five innings in Saturday's playoff win, meaning he will be available to pitch in Wednesday's semifinals.
Champions of the Peninsula Ocean Division, the Knights have a common opponent with Carmel in Division II semifinalist Christopher.
The King's Academy played them to a 3-3 tie on Feb. 26, while the Padres fell 5-1 to Christopher on April 3.
The Padres are 8-1 in their last nine games as Kevin Cook, Jabin Trosky and Nico Staehle have hit the ball all over the field during the teams second half surge.
