Marina-Seaside boys hoops

The belief when Marina opened its doors to sports a decade ago was that these two schools would become natural rivals.
 Never materialized.
 Could that be changing?
The Pacific Division champion Spartans will open up the Central Coast Section Division IV playoffs tonight, hosting Coastal Athletic League champion Marina.
With the Mission Trail Athletic League and Monterey Bay League merging as one next season, it is possible these two teams could be in the same division next season.
For now it's about avoiding turning in uniforms and keeping a magical season alive.
Seaside went from winning two league games last year in the Pacific to losing just two games, while the Mariners went from winning one MTAL game last year to losing just one in the CAL.
Matthew Briscoe is making a case for Player of the Year, averaging over 23 points a game this year for Seaside, while contributions have come from Jordan Banon and DeMarcus Hawkins.
Marina's attack starts with Jordan Chaty, who had 23 points in the teams win over Gonzales, which all but sealed the teams title.
The two teams are somewhat familiar with each other, having played in the sportsmanship games to start the season.
A common opponent is Greenfield, which both teams played back in December. The Spartans posted a 13 point win while Marina held on for a one-point decision.
