On the heels of a school record 17 wins and the programs first Mission Trail Athletic League title, Soledad didn't even receive a top 12 seed in Division III.
That went to Capuchino.
But because the Aztecs won the league title, they will at least get a home game tonight in the Central Coast Section Division III playoffs.
Forgive Soledad if it's playing with a chip on its shoulder. Not being seeded after a 17 win season in a respectable league was a slap in the face.
This run of supremacy begin before league play started when Soledad won its last four non-league games, beating a Gabilan Division opponent and two teams that reached the playoffs.
It snowballed into the MTAL, where just two games weren't decided by 10 or more points. Owners of 10 straight wins, the Aztecs defense held nine of those opponents under 45 points.
Offensively Xenia Suarez has been a mark of consistency all season, with contributions coming from Jacky Saldana, Daisy Bugarin and Theresa Chavez.
Capuchino struggled in the 10-team Peninsula South League at 3-9. It did go 6-5 outside league play, with freshman guard April Tuason averaging nearly 16 points a game.
