Former Hartnell College distance standouts Amy Johnston and Michael Ramirez were named top Newcomers of the Year for the University of Alaska, Anchorage cross country team.
Johnston, who prepped at Notre Dame, was fourth overall at the GNAC championships, earning all conference honors.
Ramirez, a Salinas High grad, was fifth overall, earning all conference honors while helping lead the Seawolves men's team to a GNAC team title.
Ramirez was a two-time Junior College All-American in cross country at Hartnell, and has the third fastest 5,000 meter time in school history at 14:47.00.
