Preseason girls hoops overview

Nothing has changed my mind about North Salinas. This team is so deep in depth. It strikes fast and wears opponents down with its pressing defense.
Alyssa Springs has evolved into one of the premier players in the county. Four players are averaging over eight points a game for the Vikings. It's a team that's fun to watch.
The team that has quietly had a solid preseason is Monte Vista at 8-3. Newcomers to the Monterey Bay League's Gabilan Division, this team will be a factor.
The most improved team was Notre Dame, who behind 3-point artist Marisa Given, plays as good as defense as any team in the county.
A team on the rise is North County. Samantha Flores is going to dominate opponents in the Pacific Division. So will Natalia Castro of Alisal.
The entire Mission Trail Athletic League is a mystery. Santa Catalina has not played a game since Dec. 13. Carmel and Greenfield have played well after Christmas.
