Apparently there is some magic at Monterey.
Two game-winning shots in the final seconds last week by David Kim and Carter Aldrete lifted the Toreadores to a pair of nail biting wins.
Kim's 3-pointer at the buzzer gave Monterey a 54-51 win over Salinas while Aldrete's shot with 4.1 seconds left lifted them to a 50-49 win over Monte Vista.
Efforts like that erase doubts about being able to win tight games.
Remember, this is a program that failed to hold a six-point fourth quarter lead at Seaside, falling in overtime -- the same thing occured earlier this year in losing in OT to Valley Christian.
Aldrete and Austin Shake are the only returning starters.
Wins like that create an identity.
You can't coach confidence.
