Pacific Grove-Live Oak football

Central Coast Section Playoffs
Division IV
Friday's game
No. 7 Pacific Grove (9-1) at No. 2 Live Oak (9-1), 7 p.m.
A former long-time member of the old Monterey Bay League, the Acorns only setback this fall was a 28-8 loss to Christopher in Week 2. Ironically that loss was at home.
What has followed is eight straight wins and a Santa Teresa Athletic League title. Five of Live Oak's games this fall have been decided by a touchdown or less.
It's no secret what they do and that's put the ball into the hands of Trevor Bearden, who has 2,553 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns this fall. He also has 15 catches for 230 yards.
Bearden, who is within striking distance of the section's all-time rushing record, has averaged 273.8 yards a game by himself for Live Oak.
The Breakers are a little more balanced as Jason Leach has rushed for over 1,200 yards while Jake Speed has 800 plus receiving yards and 23 total touchdowns.
Speed is a playmaker on the outside. But he's not the only one. Receivers Dylan Chesney and Forrest  Compton both have six touchdown catches.
Now would be a good time for Pacific Grove to rediscover its defense. After giving up 106 points in its first eight games, it has allowed 81 in its last two games.
In addition, Carmel ran off the last 5:45 of the clock against them last week by running the ball.

Not to disresppect what Bearden has accomplished, but Live Oak lost to Christopher, beat Sobrato (who went 0 - 10 this season) and beat Gilroy (who beat up on teams early in the season but couldn't win against teams like Christopher or NS. No doubt Live Oak has a chance against PG if they can put together long time consuming drives, but I think PG is just too explosive and should win this game easily.
