Friday's game
Monterey (7-2) at Alvarez (9-0), 7:30 p.m.
So what is there really to play for?
This is a non-league game in Week 11. Alvarez has already locked up the MBL's Pacific Division title. The Toreadores can only gain a share of the MBL's Gabilan Division title if Palma falls to San Benito.
The playoffs are a week away for both teams. The points are not going to make a big difference in playoff positioning. Alvarez should get a home game in the Division I playoffs.
That being said, Alvarez has a lot on the line.
For one perfection is at stake. Only two teams have gone 10-0 over the last five years in the county in Carmel and Seaside.
Plus another win breaks the single-season school record at Alvarez.
On the other side, Monterey is playing with a lot of momentum going into the playoffs with five straight wins, relying on a defense that has induced 17 turnovers during the winning streak.
In some regards, this is a playoff game with one exception. The loser isn't turning in uniforms the following day.
