Football picks

No rhyme or reason, but perfection was a field goal away. Still an 8-1 mark improves the season record to 72-23.

Friday's games
North Salinas at Gilroy: A win and the Vikings get ready for the postseason. A loss and they're turning in gear. Pick: North Salinas.
Salinas at Alisal: I've got a feeling the Cowboys are headed for a sixth straight CCS Division I semifinal appearance. Pick: Salinas.
Monterey at Alvarez: For non-league games, this is a prelim to the postseason for both teams. Pick: Monterey.
King City at Gonzales: The oldest rivalry game in Monterey County has two teams looking towards next year. Pick: King City.
Soledad at Greenfield: This has not been the year both teams envisioned when the season began. Pick: Soledad.
Carmel at Pacific Grove: It's not just a league title that's at stake, but a home game in the first round of the CCS Division IV playoffs. Pick: Carmel.
Monte Vista at Seaside: This is a playoff game for the Spartans, who need a win to clinch a spot in the CCS playoffs. Pick: Seaside.
San Benito at Palma: Having already locked up a share of the league title, the Chieftains have never lost a Gabilan Division game. Pick: Palma.

Saturday's games
Christopher at North County: The Condors have been butchered by injuries. A Cougar win and they're likely playoff bound. Pick: Christopher.
Marina at Stevenson: Both teams had solid starts before tailing off in the second half. Closing the season with a win provides momentum for next season. Pick: Stevenson.
