Having attended 121 49ers games at The Stick, I've got a few memories stored in the bank to share over the 17 week regular season as the days of Candlestick Park are coming to a close.
The writing appeared on the wall. A banged up Joe Montana was being fazed out by Bill Walsh in 1988 for Steve Young.
Montana had missed three straight games with an injury. Yet, Young was horrific in two straight losses. The 49ers were staggering at 6-5.
Walsh declared Montana healthy and he started a Monday night prime time game on Nov. 21 against the defending Super Bowl champion Redskins.
The 49ers raced out to a 23-7 halftime lead en route to a 38-21 win, as Montana fired a pair of touchdown passes. San Francisco lost just one more time that season in capturing their third Super Bowl.
