A lack of funds could force Greenfield to shut down its high school in June — 11 years after it opened.
Which begs the question? Where do close to 1,000 students go? Before the school opened its doors, students from Greenfield attended King City.
But King City's school isn't equipped to handle another 1,000 students. The likelihood is half the students would go to King City and the other half to Soledad.
If you had put King City and Greenfield's football teams together this year, you might have had a different champion in the Mission Trail Athletic League.

If you send half the kids to Soledad and half to King City, both Soledad and King City will have more kids (1,570 at Soledad and 1,525 at King City) than Monterey (1,496), North Monterey County (1,317), Aptos (1,315) or Seaside (1,294). With that many athletes to choose from, both schools should be able to field teams that will give the rest of the MTAL trouble for years to come.
