My argument that programs that struggle yearly should be moved into another league to build back confidence is working at Soledad. Yes Soledad. Well, at least in one sport.
Doormats of the Mission Trail Athletic League for years, the Aztecs girls soccer team was put in the smaller Coast Athletic League last season.
The result saw them capture the CAL title and reach the playoffs for the first time in school history. Soledad is back in the MTAL this year. A revitalized program is 8-0-0.
All it took was a little success to create interest and build confidence in the program.
Alvarez are you listening? Several of their programs — not just football — could use a jump start in resurrecting their sports. A move back to the Monterey Bay League would be a good start.
With the exception of boys basketball and soccer, the TCAL has been a humbling experience.
