On the eve of its own tournament, Carmel is still without a team to play.
Two schools have backed out over the last eight days, leaving the host school in limbo for Thursday's opening round.
It's possible that Carmel could play Stevenson's JVs just to fill a slot or be forced to wait until Friday to play a first round winner.
Talk about an easy opener.
Then again, should the unthinkable occur and Carmel fall to a JV team, it shouldn't be allowed to play on.
The lineup for the annual tournament is still impressive with North Salinas, Salinas, Monterey, Stevenson, SLV and defending champion El Camino of Sacramento.
