The Shoe to Carmel

I can't say I'm surprised that Carmel hoisted 'The Shoe' for the first time in six years. I can't even say I'm shocked by the score.
After all, the Padres have been averaging 49 points a game. So why wouldn't they score 49 against a Pacific Grove team disseminated by injuries.
But let's not make that an excuse. Nor do I believe players at Pacific Grove would want that. Carmel was the better team before the season started. It lived up to the preseason hype.
Winning its first league title outright in 45 years was a monumental achievement. But don't tell me 'The Shoe' is not a big deal. Each player wanted to touch it. And a coach cradled it.
