career over

You're invincible at 18.
Drastic life changing events aren't suppose to be part of the equation.
Which is easy to understand why former Salinas standout Evin Cotton is struggling to deal with the fact that her volleyball career — at least at Baylor University — is over before it started.
Cotton suffering four herniated disks in her back during a fall in practice.
While surgery could enable Cotton to return in four to six months, it doesn't guarantee that she'll be able to return to the form that earned her an athletic scholarship.
Which is why Baylor has asked Cotton to sign papers that would disqualify her from ever playing for the school again.
It's unlikely that Cotton — who signed the papers — will ever play again.
To the universities credit, they are allowing her to keep her scholarship, should she stay.
But what a devastating blow.
