Anyone remember Nick Cunningham?
The Monterey High sprinter who listened to his name being announced during graduation on a cell phone in Norwalk while preparing to compete in the state track and field championships in the 200 meters five years ago.
Today Cunningham is a part of the U.S. National championship four-man bobsled team that won the team trials in Lake Placid, New York.
Four months after competing in his last collegiate track meet for Boise State at the NCAA Regionals, Cunningham is vying for a spot on the U.S. Olympic bobsled team for the Winter Olympics in 2010.
Cunningham isn't the first former sprinter to attempt bobsledding. Former NFL stars and college sprinters Hershel Walker and Willie Gault both attempted to make an Olympic team.
