Road trips for high school teams usually amount to no more than a 90-minute bus ride.
How about a six-hour plane ride — a red eye at that?
North Salinas is taking its cross country team to New York to compete in the second oldest high school invitational in the nation on the oldest cross country course.
Wow.
Several of the 17 athletes that are set to board a plane in one week have never flown.
What makes this trip special is what the team will do while in New York. Four college campus visits, a stop along its subway ride to Yankee Stadium, Ground Zero and Ellis Island.
The educational experience alone will make it a lifetime experience. It'll create hope and vision. The race will be an adrenaline rush. So to will be seeing the worlds most diverse city.
