Believe it.
The prep track season heats up Thursday with dual meets in the Tri-County Athletic League.
What happens in March almost always changes in May. Times and marks are more of a gauge at this point.
Still will there be a team or individual that comes out of nowhere and leaves us gasping for more?
Two years ago it was the Monterey boys 1,600 relay team that came together just in time to shave seven seconds over three meets down the stretch.
The result was a school record and third place finish at the state finals.
For someone, who has covered 12 state meets, it was by far the best story I've had, if for no other reason than it wasn't expected.
There's a lot of unknown this year. Outside of Diego Estrada of Alisal in the 3,200 meter run and Wesley Tucker of Monterey in the 400, it's a new class of athletes.
One individual I do like is Dakota Sanchez of Alvarez. Her potential in the 300 low hurdles in untapped. Last spring she just got better and better. And this past fall, she ran cross country to build endurance.
One note of interest this spring. King City has three pole vaulters over 12-feet in the first week.
Very little will change among the three leagues as Carmel (MTAL), North County (MBL) and San Benito (TCAL) will repeat the feat.
