Soledad-Righetti football

Friday's game
Soledad (2-1) at Righetti (4-0), 7 p.m.
Coming off a 66 point eruption, the Warriors have outscored opponents 178-40 this fall -- 49-0 in the first quarter.
As for statement wins, that came in Week 2 for Righetti when it erased a 21-0 deficit with 28 points in the fourth quarter in stunning Lompoc.
Logan Mortensen turned seven completions into three touchdowns in the first half last week for the Warriors, who scored on their first eight possessions.
Soledad has yet to allow a point in the first half this fall, outscoring opponents 49-0. Offensively, it has struggled in finishing drives in its last two games.
Being creative and getting the ball to Josiah Freeman is critical. The senior receiver is a playmaker when the ball is in his hands.
Expect Righetti to come with blitz packages, particularly after the Aztecs gave up nine sacks in a loss to Gonzales last week, including three on a potential game winning drive.
Righetti is ranked 82nd in the state by MaxPreps. What does that mean? Probably nothing. Palma is ranked 168 and Salinas 207. Soledad is ranked 669.
Last year Righetti handed Soledad a 42-12 defeat.

JD says...."Righetti is ranked 82nd in the state by MaxPreps. What does that mean? Probably nothing. Palma is ranked 168 and Salinas 207. Soledad is ranked 669."

Probably nothing?????

I know there are people out there who do not like the computer models But when a team ranked 82nd takes on a team ranked 669 then 99 times out of a hundred the team ranked 82nd is going to kick the 669th team's ass. How this got scheduled I cannot imagine.

Of course as the season goes on the models get more realistic as more data is fed into the model. Maybe by the end of the season Palma will be ranked in the top 100. Maybe Righetti will fall out of the top 100. But Soledad doesn't stand a chance against either.

By the way, the fact that the calpreps model now plays such a big part in determining play-off points tells you the models are becoming more mainstream. The rankings (even this early in the season) mean more than "nothing".
