Statement win. Signature moment. Message sent.
How about point made.
A year to think about being 1-9 left a huge chip on the Spartans shoulders.
Talk of heart, pride and resiliency surfaced throughout the off-season, serving as motivation during those 6 a.m workouts.
You can check off at least two of those intangibles after a 27-14 win over defending divisional state champion Bishop O'Dowd.
I say two boxes because the heart of a champion and the pride of a warrior have been evident in the teams first two wins.
Resilient?
Well, truth be told the Spartans haven't really faced adversity in their first two games.
Yes, they beat one of the top teams in the North Coast Section. But it was pure domination from the opening kickoff with an 11-play, eight plus minute drive, resulting in a Bubba Quenga touchdown.
It was followed by a special teams play that resulted in a 90-yard touchdown from Gilbert Ruelas off a blocked field goal attempt, and ended with an Elijah Sandifer interception.
The potential in this team is dangerous. Mistakes were still made, such as having a touchdown called back and allowing a kickoff return for six.
Still, the defense was filthy and the offense efficient. That being said you can make the argument that this week's game at Christopher will be about character.
Coming off a physical and emotional win -- arguably Seaside's biggest since winning a Central Coast Section title in 2009, maintaining the hunger will dictate the potential for a special season.
