Seaside-Christopher football

Friday's game
Seaside (2-0) at Christopher (0-2), 7:30 p.m.
The emotion of arguably their biggest win since capturing a Central Coast Section title in 2009 needs to be tempered for the Spartans.
Christopher has not played well in two lopsided losses this year. Granted the two teams it has fallen to are undefeated, including defending CCS champion King's Academy.
It's not that the Cougars don't have the ability to move the ball behind quarterback James Goodrich, who has thrown for over 400 yards and two touchdowns.
The inability to run the ball -- no rushing touchdowns -- is enabling opponents to add a nickle back in the secondary.
The Spartans defense has been filthy in shutting out Marina and shocking defending state champion Bishop O'Dowd last week, allowing 122 yards in total offense.
While special teams gave up a touchdown on a kickoff return, they also produced a touchdown when Gilbert Ruelas returned a blocked field goal attempt 90 yards for six for Seaside -- 10 point swing.
Bubba Quenga has provided the Spartans with a game breaker on the ground, while Tristan Ortiz has tossed four touchdown passes in two games.
The strength of Seaside starts in the trenches. The offensive line is punishing opponents, while the defensive front is creating havoc. Injuries are a concern for a team that does not have a lot of depth.
