Friday's game
Salinas (1-0) at Clovis (2-1), 7 p.m.
Last year's meeting between the two teams served as a wake-up call for Salinas after surrendering 40 points in a humbling 24-point loss.
While the sun will likely be down, temperatures are expected to be in the low 90's for kickoff in the Fresno area.
Clovis outscored its first two opponents 90-14 before suffering a 19-7 setback to SAC Joaquin power Bullard of Fresno.
Quarterback Isaiah Robles has thrown for over 500 yards and eight touchdowns for Clovis, with four of those scoring tosses going to Grant Lake.
Coming off a 71 point eruption, in which a running clock was used for the entire second half, Salinas scored touchdowns on its first four offensive possessions.
Carl Richardson threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns for the Cowboys, with Austin Villanueva turning two catches into two touchdowns and 100 receiving yards.
While Richardson and backup quarterback Landon Laporte combined for 133 rushing yards, ideally you don't want your quarterback leading you in rushing.
Then again, several of Richardson's runs were designed, including two carries that resulted in a pair of touchdowns.
Dating back to 2017, Salinas has won eight straight non-playoff road games. Over the last 10 years, however, it is just 1-6 against teams outside the Central Coast Section.
