MPC-Contra Costa football

Saturday's game
MPC (1-0) at Contra Costa (0-1), 1 p.m.
It was a nice return for quarterback Hunter Raquet, who threw for 335 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for three touchdowns.
Last fall the former San Benito standout spent a redshirt season at Fresno State, before giving up his scholarship to return to MPC.
Raquet, who quarterbacked the Lobos to a conference title in 2017, found nine different receivers in the game, including Dacian Sullivan, who caught seven passes, two for touchdowns.
A running back by committee approach saw four different players get nine or more carries, including Marina graduate Fermin Gabot, who rushed for 79 yards in his debut.
MPC's offense went in spurts last week, running off 14, 20 and 14 straight points, turning a tie game in the second quarter into a 20 point lead in the third quarter.
Defensively, the Lobos forced four turnovers, with Delano Dickerson intercepting two passes. David Hawkins is coming off an 11-tackle, one pick game. Alisal grad Eric Mendoza registered a sack.
Establishing some sort of a running game has to be Contra Costa's priority, after finishing with minus 37 yards on 17 carries in a 31-7 pasting by Cabrillo.
Despite being on the field most of the game, Contra Costa's defense recorded three interceptions. But it also gave up over 300 yards in passing offense, and over 450 yards in total offense.
The Comets have struggled the last two years, posting a 1-19 overall record, falling 65-12 last year to MPC.
