Friday's game
Monterey (1-0) at Watsonville (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
It's more than just talk about the potential of the Toreadores aerial assault. It's reality as Josh Elmore fired four touchdowns passes last week, including the game winner in the final minute.
Dating back to last season, Monterey's last two wins have come on Elmore touchdown passes in the final 75 seconds of a game.
Yet, add a nickle back in the secondary and the Toreadores aren't afraid to go back to what's worked for them for over 100 years and that's run the ball behind Janias Thomas.
After closing last year with five straight losses, the Wildcatz opened with a 21-7 decision over rival Pajaro Valley.
Watsonville started fast last year, opening the year with three straight wins before dropping six of its final seven games. The Toreadores started 3-0 last year as well.
Elmore's four touchdown passes last week matched his entire total from 2018. Jaiden Russell was a blur in the open field with two touchdown catches.
Dating back to last year, the Toreadores have won six straight road games. Their last road loss came in 2016 -- at Watsonville.
