Milpitas-Salinas football

Friday's game
Milpitas (1-2) at Salinas (1-1), 7:30 p.m.
These two teams have faced each other five times in the last four years, with the Cowboys capturing the last two, including a 25-18 win in the 2017 CCS Division I title game.
Carl Richardson has yet to throw a pick in 53 attempts this season for Salinas, having thrown for 571 yards and eight touchdowns, while leading the team in rushing with 175 yards.
A dual threat with his legs, the 6-foot-5 Richardson is forcing teams to respect the Cowboys running game, which has chalked up nearly 400 yards in two games.
Five of Richardson's touchdown passes have been of 30 yards or longer, with Austin Villanueva and Cade Smith each having three touchdown catches.
Cleaning up its special teams is a priority for Salinas this week after having a blocked punt returned for a touchdown, a blocked field goal and failing to recover an onside kick.
Milpitas has faced three teams outside the CCS this year, knocking off Castlemont 35-0 last week. Its struggles start with the running game, averaging just 2.1 yards each time it touches the ball.
The 52 points Salinas gave up last week was the most since allowing 60 in a playoff loss to Piedmont Hills in 2013.
