Gilroy-Soledad football

Friday's game
Gilroy (0-1) at Soledad (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
The 56 points that the Aztecs produced last week was the third highest in the programs history, and the most points they have ever scored in a season opener.
The win also snapped a three-year losing streak to open the season, in which Soledad had dropped its first two games. This was just the programs second season opening win in the last 10 years.
Gilroy, who was shutout four times last year in the Gabilan Division, manufactured just six points in a season opening loss to Cypress Division opponent Santa Cruz.
Despite a losing streak that has reached nine dating back to last fall, the Mustangs are still a member of the Gabilan Division.
In fact, Gilroy's last win came against Soledad in Week 2, when a touchdown with 1:15 remaining in the game gave them a 15-13 decision.
The Aztecs, who didn't produce 56 points until five games into last season, compiled over 400 yards in total offense last week against Greenfield.
Kevin Oliver rushed for three touchdowns while Ritchie Ortiz added a pair. We got a glimpse of the athleticism of Josiah Freeman, who had touchdown catches of 50 and 18 yards from Damian Mejia.
