Calling Aptos' opponent (Newport Harbor) a southern section powerhouse is simply WRONG.

In 2018, Aptos was ranked as the 79th best team in California...Newport Harbor ranked as 420. Similarly in 2017, Aptos ranked 226 while Newport Harbor was 436. In fact over the past five seasons Aptos has averaged a 151 state ranking while Newport Harbor has averaged a 316 state ranking.

Mitty would defeat any of the teams ranked here. San Benito defeated a weak Santa Theresa. Palma defense will be fine. Mistakes in the last 7 minutes when it was tied 31 hurt them which was more inexperienc. Palma actually looked better than I thought they would on offense and defense will iron out over the next couple games.

I’d put Palma ahead of Hollister. And what did Seaside do in the offseason to command this much respect? They are ranked ahead Alisal, Monterey, and MVC.... why, exactly?

It’s hard to even consider this an honest ranking system. It makes as much sense as predicting next week’s Lottery numbers.

Several ways to rank teams. One person's opinion. A poll like is being run in the Herald now for the Top Team in the Past 20 Years. Or a computer model. calpreps ranks area teams:

Salinas
Aptos
Palma
Carmel
Monterey
Holllister
Christopher
Alisal
MVC
Alvarez

with KC, NMC, Seaside and Soledad next in order (on the bubble).

Well, Seaside earned that ranking this week. Although it makes the decision to move them down instead of Gilroy that much more confusing.
