The former Palma product rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in the University of San Diego's season opening loss to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
A two-time all-conference second team selection in his first two years for the Toreros, Martinez also caught two passes for 14 yards.
In 25 career games for San Diego, Martinez has rushed for 1,821 yards and 20 touchdowns, and has caught 69 passes for 624 yards and four touchdowns.
The 5-foot-9 Martinez set single season and career rushing records at Palma, rushing for a school and county record 73 touchdowns in three seasons.
