Friday's game
Greenfield (0-0) at Soledad (0-0)
Winning just three games for the third straight year does not provide the true progress of a program going in a new direction.
The Bruins closed last season 3-3 after a horrific 0-4 start, that saw them fail to produce a point until the fourth quarter of their third game.
An argument can be made that Soledad had an even more dreadful start, opening the fall with seven straight losses, only to rebound with three consecutive wins to capitulate them into the playoffs.
Former league rivals from another time, the two teams didn't play each other last season for the first time in 19 years. Soledad holds a 12-7 advantage, capturing the last eight meetings.
Greenfield has gone back to an offense that has seen them rattle off a series of 1,000 yard rushers in the past. It still has quarterback Daniel Morales, who set a single-game passing record last fall.
Re-establishing the ground game is a priority for Soledad, who struggled in what had been a strength during its run to a section title 2016 and a league title in 2017.
Jaycob Olivas has produced over 100 tackles in each of his last two years for the Aztecs. He will be a threat to rush for over 100 yards each game.
