Gonzales-Alisal football

Friday's game
Gonzales (0-0) at Alisal (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Grinding the ball as much as the Spartans did last year was dictated by having a 2,400 yard tailback exploding each week.
That's gone. Duplicating last year's style might be a reach. So instead look for Gonzales to stretch the field with its passing game, which was impressive over the summer.
Throwing the ball is like a foreign object to Alisal, who doesn't hide from what it wants to do, daring you to stop its running game.
The Trojans can expect to see eight-man fronts all season. Gonzales gave up nearly 300 yards on the ground in its only loss of the season last year.
The second quarter was a big point producer for the Spartans last year, as they racked up 179 of their 509 points. The defense held six opponents to a touchdown or less.
Jayson Flores led Gonzales in interceptions last season and will find a bigger role running the ball on offense, while Frankie Cisneros is the teams top returning receiver.
Alisal failed to hold leads in the second half on three occasions. Reverse that trend and a 5-5 record is a 8-2 mark.
