Carmel-Pacific Grove football

Friday's game
Carmel (0-0) at Pacific Grove (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
Have these long-time peninsula rivals drifted that far apart to where one is in the highest division and the other is in the lowest division?
For the first time in the 72nd meeting for the coveted 'Shoe', the two teams are playing in Week 1 of the season.
Carmel holds a 36-33-2 series lead, having posted a 57-0 win last fall and a 64-0 decision in 2017. It has won the last four meetings to overtake the Breakers.
The Padres, who are in the Gabilan Division after going 12-1 last season, are led by quarterback Kai Lee, who has thrown 45 touchdown passes in the last two years.
Lee has a burner on the outside to get the ball to in Benicio Cristofalo, as well as 6-foot-5 tight end J.T. Byrne.
Dakota Mornhinweg has never lost a regular season game (14-0) for Carmel, rushing for 1,483 yards and 22 touchdowns last year, while catching 26 passes for six more touchdowns.
Of the Breakers 26 man roster, 24 of them are seniors, including Blake Moore, who compiled over 1,000 yards in rushing and receiving yards last year, scoring six touchdowns.
Quarterback Ben Minik appears comfortable behind center for Pacific Grove. Anthony DaSilva and Chianti Carter give Pacific Grove three runners with three different styles.
Size wise, these teams match up in the trenches. Both teams have athletic secondaries. An edge to Carmel in team speed.
The objective for Pacific Grove is to slow the game down, utilized its trio of backs and limited the Padres possessions.
Carmel has always been a strike fast offense. Yet, where it made its mark last year was in the third quarter, when it outscored teams 146-14.
