Playoff debate rages

Here come the arguments. And they'll rage on for the next 48 hours until the dust settles.
What is Carmel doing in the Division V playoffs, having outscored two teams 112-35, putting 57 up on Gonzales.
Well, the same question could be presented to King's Academy, who the Padres will face next week in the Central Coast Section finals.
Both these teams have clearly shown they could have competed in the Open Division III.
But this isn't really a debate. Both teams play in 'B' Divisions in the regular season. Simply put, both are playing where their enrollments dictate.
Moving up into the Open Division was an option. But it wasn't just Carmel that stayed down. No 'B' league team optioned up.
Listen King's Academy is the real deal. Just ask Monterey. And so is Carmel. Gonzales will attest to that.
And while it may have seemed unfair watching Carmel beat up on Gonzales, the bottom line is their enrollments are similar.
And next year the numbers for both programs will be similar.
Don't feel sorry for Gonzales. Head coach Art Berlanga is just getting started. This was a teaching moment for a program in uncharted waters.
That won't be the case next season. The Spartans will be back. A changing of the guard takes time.

Whether a school qualifies for a division or not, it is my opinion that blowout games don't serve the best interests of any of the athletes on the field. Hard to get a kid to want to play next year if his team gets beaten as badly as Carmel's opponents have this year.

Blowouts happen, there is literally no way of stopping them. Want to drastically reduce them in the playoffs? Then do away with the playoffs and just select the best two teams in each division to play each other and the winner is the “champion”.

Lol this is so ridiculous. Carmel is a public school with a student body of 800 with mixed genders. It’s not like they are a private school with 800 boys. They have what 45 guys on the team. Carmel is well coached get over it.

Carmel entire school population is the same as most of the areas senior classes alone. Most if not all of Carmel athletes play both offense and defense. What coach Anderson has done to the Carmel football program in unprecedented

For what coach Anderson has to work with and the thin numbers to choose from is really an accomplishment. He is a sports savant. I've known and played on pop Warner and high school teams with him as a teammate since the third grade. He was a bmx racing champion in second grade. Google golden Anderson bmx on the old tv show called double dare
