Two volleyball titles can be clinched tonight in the Gabilan and Mission Divisions as the postseason draws closer.
Salinas can insure itself no worse than a share of its first title in four years with a win at Carmel in the Gabilan while Alvarez can lock up a piece of the Mission with a victory over North Salinas.
The Cowboys are undefeated this fall in the Gabilan Division at 11-0, having swept eight opponents, including Carmel on Sept. 25.
Jennifer Foley has compiled over 800 assists for the Cowboys, with Christina Chagnon and Savanna Marker both recording over 200 kills.
Alvarez, who sits at 8-1, took over sole possession of first place Tuesday night after upending Alisal in five sets. It holds a one game lead over Alisal and Seaside with two remaining.
Ashley Noble is coming off a single-match school record 56 digs for Alvarez. Karmyn Anderson and Aaliyah Foster have both averaged over 10 kills a match all season.
Marina maintains a one-game lead in the Santa Lucia with four matches remaining, including one with Oakwood, who it defeated in five sets on Oct. 8 to remain undefeated in league play.
Two perennial playoffs teams on the outside looking in are King City and Santa Catalina, two small schools that were thrown into the Gabilan Division because of their past history.
Gutted by graduation, the reigning two-time CCS Division V champion Cougars have tumbled to a 2-9 league record while King City is just 3-8 in league play.
