Carmel-North Salinas football

Friday's game
Carmel (7-0) vs. North Salinas (4-3) at Rabobank, 7:30 p.m.
Understanding that they still control their fate should provide a postseason type atmosphere for the Vikings, who have been involved in five games decided by a touchdown or less.
Carmel is averaging 45 points a game this fall -- 50.1 if you take out the 14-0 win over Monte Vista. Five of its games have incorporated a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Kai Lee has thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Padres while tailback Dakota Mornhinweg has rushed for 758 yards and 10 touchdowns, while catching five touchdown passes.
Carmel's defense has shutout three teams, with Robert Brown producing 10 sacks. It has not given up a point in the third quarter all season.
North Salinas expects to have Matt Morales back in the lineup after the tailback missed two games with an injury The senior had put together four straight 100 plus yard rushing efforts.
The Vikings' size in the trenches is similar to Monte Vista's, who held Carmel scoreless in the first half four weeks ago.
Limiting Carmel's possessions starts with slowing the game down and controlling clock, and taking care of the ball.
At some point, though, the Padres will get the ball. Shutting down their arsenal of weapons is a tall order, as four players not named Lee have combined for over 2,000 rushing and receiving yards and 31 touchdowns.
