St. Francis-Monterey football

Friday's game
St. Francis (4-4) at Monterey (7-1), 7:30 p.m.
We keep waiting for the Toreadores to put together a complete game. When it hasn't happened, the bottom line is they're 7-1 and one win away from a Cypress Division title.
Monterey has been resilient over the last two weeks, rallying in the second half to pull out a pair of Cypress Division wins.
Having Tim Byrd back at tailback clearly made a difference last week as he rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns in a 23-17 win over San Lorenzo Valley.
St. Francis, who shared a league title last year, has dropped three of its last four games. Three of its four losses this year have been by a touchdown or less.
Andrew Seymour is one of five players to have rushed for over 200 yards this season for the Sharks, leading the team with eight rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns.
St. Francis has produced 40 or more points in three games. But it's also been held to 14 points or less four times.
Up until the last two weeks, the Toreadores had made a habit of jumping out on teams, outscoring them 72-14 in the first quarter.
The defense, anchored by Janias Thomas, Darrius Garrard and Javier Espinal-Perez, have held four league opponents to 30 points this year
