San Benito-Salinas football

Friday's game
San Benito (5-3) at Salinas (6-2), 7:30 p.m.
After four weeks of essentially glorified scrimmages, title implications are at stake for both teams as the postseason draws closer.
Having rattled off six consecutive wins since an 0-2 start, the defending Gabilan Division champion Cowboys have outscored their last four opponents 182-17 - with running clocks in the fourth quarter.
Since giving up 76 points in its first two games to two teams a combined 14-3 this year, Salinas has allowed just 31 points with three shutouts.
San Benito also started the season 0-2, but has since gone 5-1, with its only setback coming from 8-0 Aptos.
Dating back to 2016, Salinas has won 13 straight Gabilan Division games.
Nathan Martorella has 19 sacks in the last two years for Salinas while Nick Marquez is chasing 100 tackles this fall.
Since throwing five interceptions in his first two games, Carl Richardson has one pick in his last 154 attempts for Salinas, having thrown for nearly 1,900 yards.
Four different receivers have 20 or more catches with John Mendalla having caught 38 passes for 458 yards and three touchdowns. Five receivers have multiple touchdown catches.
Stevan Navarro and Eric Greene are threats as runners and receivers for San Benito. Two of the better linebackers in the Gabilan Division are Owen Branon and Albert Rodriguez.
