Friday's game
Seaside (0-6) at Salinas (4-2), 7:30 p.m.
A lack of depth really shows up in the second half for Seaside, who gave up just one touchdown on defense in the first half last week against Palma, and two the week before in a setback to Aptos.
The Spartans have also been their own worst enemy, giving up a defensive touchdown last week, as well as committing a turnover at the 1-yard line.
Penalties have been a thorn in Salinas' side all season, having had over 100 yards in flags in five of its six games.
Two punt returns for touchdowns were called back last week because of penalties. Justified or not, Salinas has got to get it cleaned up before the postseason.
The players have seemed unfazed, chalking up over 500 yards in offense last week, with quarterback Carl Richardson throwing for 317 yards and rushing for 117, accounting for three touchdowns.
Owners of four straight wins since opening the season with a pair of losses, Salinas' defense has held two teams without a touchdown this fall.
During its four game winning streak, Salinas has outscored the opposition 48-7 in the first quarter. Dating back to 2016, it has won 11 straight league games.
