Friday's game
San Lorenzo Valley (3-5) at Monterey (6-1), 7:30 p.m.
The reality is the Cougars should be 7-1 and undefeated in the Cypress Division. Using an electronic devise in the quarterbacks helmet, which apparently is illegal, cost them four wins.
Yet, it has only served as incentive for San Lorenzo Valley, who is 3-0 since, outscoring opponents 102-18.
Stevie Markey has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Cougars while Taj Glasky has chalked up nearly 600 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
Despite having three touchdowns called back because of penalties and not having the use of its best offensive threat, the Toreadores found a way to get past Pacific Grove last week.
Whether it was because Monterey was on fall break last week or not, it look flat and out of sync on both sides of the ball, compiling over 100 yards in penalties.
Janias Thomas filled in at tailback and picked up 128 yards on 22 carries. Yet, his biggest play came when he caught a slant and darted 25 yards for a touchdown on fourth down.
Evans Charles completed a career high 20 passes for 295 yards for Monterey, with Hendrick Lusk grabbing a season high seven receptions.
Of course, piling up yards won't matter if Monterey can't produce points in the red zone, scoring just once in five opportunities last week.
