King City-Monterey football

Friday's game
King City (3-2) at Monterey (4-1), 7:30 p.m.
The Toreadores didn't need to scout King City. All they had to do was look at film of their only loss this season to North Salinas.
The style of play is similar, with the Mustangs being a physical defensive team that has allowed just 13 points in two Cypress Division games.
Containing Monterey's speed starts with not letting quarterback Evans Charles escape pressure and buy time to get the ball to his receivers.
The 6-foot-4 Charles keeps plays alive with his mobility. As a result, you can't stack nine in the box and attempt to contain tailback Tim Byrd.
Injuries to King City's top three running backs opened the door for Alex Valdez, who responded with a 200 plus yard effort two weeks ago, followed by an 82 yard rushing performance last week.
Valdez will get 15 to 18 touches a game. Quarterback Dylan Oliveros looked poised in the pocket for the first time last week, tossing two touchdown passes.
What has plagued the Mustangs is turnovers - 14 this season. However, nine of them came in a pair of losses. Monterey's defense has induced 14 turnovers.
Monterey has been involved in two games decided by three points or less. It does have one of the better kickers in the area in Juan Barragan.
