Hartnell-San Jose City football

Saturday's game
Hartnell (5-0) at San Jose City (1-4), 1 p.m.
What's changed for the Panthers this season is their ability to win tight games, posting a 3-0 record in games decided by six points or less -- including one in overtime.
Last year Hartnell was 0-4 in games decided by a touchdown or less, including a 19-14 season finale loss to Los Medanos that cost them a bowl bid.
In addition, the Panthers are making things happen on defense with 14 turnovers, giving them a plus three ratio. Last season they were minus two.
Alisal graduate Alexis Ramos has been a demon on defense with a team high 43 tackles and eight sacks for Hartnell.
Chauncey Jackson has 34 tackles and 5.5 sacks while Seaside product DeMarcus Hawkins has 32 tackles, six sacks and two fumble recoveries, returning one for a touchdown.
The Jaguars are averaging just 15 points a game this year, having been shutout twice. They have just 618 passing yards and 421 rushing yards.
State ranked for the third consecutive week, Hartnell is quietly averaging 41 points a game this fall, having already equaled last year's entire win total.
Quarterback Isaiah Ariolla-Randall has thrown for over 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns, with Davon Owens and Jeff Weimer having combined for 72 catches.
Weimer, who prepped at Salinas High, has 35 catches for 463 yards and a team high six touchdowns this year.
While Hartnell's ground game has seen its average jump nearly two yards per attempt in its last two game, it's still looking to get untrack.
Keishawn Robinson is averaging 4.3 yards each time he touches the ball, having chalked up nearly 250 yards while Emmanuel Ortega and Covossay Windham are getting more touches.
