Greenfield football

If you're judging a season solely on wins, the Bruins are virtually in the same position they were last year.
Yet, watching this team develop over the course of the season, minus Friday's 62-7 loss to unbeaten Gonzales, it's evident that Greenfield is going in another direction -- the right direction.
First year coach Adam Barsenas has changed the culture and altered attitudes. There's a sense that the program has a promising future.
Barsenas stayed the course when Greenfield failed to score in its first two games, and mustered just 14 points in four straight losses to open the season.
He preached pride and promise. Barsenas got players to buy into it, even as the first month of the fall didn't produce a win.
What has transpired since is the Bruins have gone 3-2 in their last five games, with league losses to once beaten Stevenson and unbeaten Gonzales.
The 22-21 loss to Stevenson may have unified this team when Barsenas elected to go for a game-winning two point conversation rather than a tie in overtime.
He showed his faith in a group of players, who responded by rattling off two straight wins, including a game winning field goal from Jose Hernandez against Pajaro Valley.
Again Barsenas showed trust in his players, sending Hernandez back onto the field to win the game after he had missed an extra point that would have tied it.
Greenfield has a running back headed for 1,000 yard season in Jaime Soto. A junior quarterback in Daniel Morales that set a single-season school record for passing yards.
He's brought passion back to the program. Once you've laid the foundation for the future, the wins will follow.
