Saturday's game
Greenfield (1-4) at Pajaro Valley (2-3) at Cabrillo College, 7:30 p.m.
It was a bold move that misfired. Yet, it was a decision that showed just how much first year Bruins coach Adam Barsenas believes in his players.
Electing to go for the win instead of a tie is one avenue towards uniting a lockerroom. Down the road it will pay dividends as Barsenas takes steps towards rebuilding Greenfield's program.
A Bruins offense that waited 11 quarters before scoring their first points and had just 14 through four games, has scored 63 points in their last two games.
Daniel Morales threw for three touchdowns last week for Greenfield and rushed for 76 yards. Jaime Soto is on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards.
The Grizzlies showed some grit in giving undefeated Gonzales all it could handle in the first half last week, trailing by one at the half before falling 40-20.
Defense has been a struggle for Pajaro Valley, who is allowing 44.2 points a game in its four losses on the field. Keep in mind one of its wins was through a forfeit.
Third quarter struggles continue to be a thorn in the Grizzlies side, as they have been outscored 53-0 in their four losses.
This game has the makings for a shootout. Last year Greenfield snapped a four-game losing streak to Pajaro Valley with a 48-6 win.
The two teams have faced each other eight previous times in non-league games with Pajaro Valley holding a 4-2-2 edge.
