This redemption tour that the Spartans are on this season has put them in uncharted waters.
For the first time since the mid-1970's, the program is 7-0, chasing ghosts of the past, while uniting a community that only sports can do.
Bringing home the "Megaphone" was worthy of a celebration for Gonzales, since it had spent the last 14 years in King City.
In fact the last time the Spartans defeated their nine decade old rivals is the last time they reached the postseason.
A coincidence?
Well, it only gets better. Earlier this year Gonzales ended an even longer drought when it snapped a 15-year losing streak to Pacific Grove.
The last time it beat the Breakers is the last time the Spartans won a league title.
Among their seven wins this year includes ending a nine-year losing streak to Soledad.
Assured of its first winning season in 15 years. the Spartans are three wins away from becoming the first team to go 10-0 in the regular season.
As well as the Spartans have played in the first half this year in outscoring teams 158-50, the third quarter has been their statement quarter, outscoring opponents 75-7.
Hard to believe this program had numbers in the teens just two years ago, where talk centered around the survival of the sport.
The revival of the Spartans has been arguably the best story of the year in Monterey County. Pride is a powerful tool. So is trusting the process.

It's the best story of the season in the tri-county area. Best wishes for continued success!
