Santa Cruz-King City football

Friday's game
Santa Cruz (1-3) at King City (1-2), 7:30 p.m.
The defending Coastal Division champion Cardinals come into their league opener with momentum, having snapped a three-game losing streak with a 42 point eruption last week.
Since an impressive 34-0 season opening win, King City has been outscored 83-13, with both losses coming at home.
Granted, the Mustangs two setbacks are to Carmel, who is undefeated, and Christopher, who is the defending CCS Division IV champions.
A concern for King City has to be defending the pass. Dillon Danner has thrown for nearly 500 yards and six touchdowns for the Cardinals, while rushing for a touchdown.
Of course, the last two weeks the Mustangs defense hasn't been able to stop the running game, as two different running backs have rushed for over 200 yards.
King City's offensive struggles stem from its inability to take care of the ball, having turned it over 10 times in its first three games -- a recipe for disaster.
Luis Briseno is averaging 18.5 yards a catch for King City, with over 50 percent of Dylan Oliveros' completions this fall going to him.
Oliveros has either thrown or rushed for 453 yards, with Alex Villasenor adding 185 rushing yards this fall.
The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2003 with Santa Cruz coasting to a 50-0 win.
