Saturday's game
San Jose City (0-3) at Monterey Peninsula (3-0), 6 p.m.
Imagine scoring 42 points and dropping to No. 3 in the state in points per game. MPC is putting up points at an alarming rate, averaging 49.3.
San Jose's winless start is somewhat misleading, as it fell by two to Merced last week. The 36 points it produced last week was more than its previous two games combined.
A key for MPC is that it has turned the ball over just four times all season.
San Benito graduate Hunter Nye is averaging 145 yards on the ground for MPC, having scored five touchdowns. He has also caught a touchdown pass.
Quarterback Christopher Lubinsky has thrown for 666 yards and eight touchdowns, with just one pick in 78 attempts for the Lobos, completing 64 percent of his passes.
Isaiah Kearney has caught 20 of Lubinsky's 50 completions for 286 yards, while Caleb Countryman has four touchdown receptions.
Defensively Dalton Lykins has recorded a team high 26 tackles for MPC while Raymond Wingate has 17 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles.
The Jaguars haven't generated a lot of offense this fall, having thrown for 403 yards and rushed for 209. Four of their six touchdowns have come threw the air.
Moved to the American Golden Coast Conference this year, San Jose was just 8-32 in four seasons in the American Pacific 7 Conference.
