Saturday's game
Gavilan (0-4) vs. Hartnell (4-0) at Rabobank, 6 p.m.
The Panthers have been entertaining and have shown a knack for the dramatic, with two come-from-behind wins and a double-overtime thriller in a 4-0 start.
In its last two games, Hartnell has scored 112 points, and is now ranked No. 11 in the state in scoring at 40.8 points a game.
Freshman quarterback Isaiah Ariolla-Randall has thrown for over 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns for Hartnell, with five of those touchdown passes going to Salinas High grad Jeff Weimer.
The Panthers running game is showing signs of life after sophomore Keishawn Robinson and David Freeman combined for over 100 rushing yards last week.
Alexis Ramos, Chauncey Jackson and DeMarcus Hawkins are all among the state leaders in sacks, combining for 15 1/2 sacks, not to mention 90 tackles.
Hawkins, The Herald's Defensive Player of the Year last fall, has recovered two fumbles, returning one 55 yards for a touchdown.
Gavilan comes into the game looking to snap a 17 game losing streak that dates back to 2016. It has not been within 15 points of an opponent this year, averaging just 15 points a game.
The Rams defense hasn't been bad, having forced 11 turnovers this fall, with Nathan Aguayo having intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble.
One more win equals all of last year's win total for the Panthers, who are ranked No. 24 in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau and No. 3 in the American Division.
