Salinas-Milpitas football

Friday's game
Salinas (0-2) at Milpitas (2-1), 7:30 p.m.
A rematch of last year's Central Coast Section Open Division I title game, the Cowboys are more concerned with finding an identity after two losses to open the season.
Salinas has dropped three straight regular season games to the Trojans, suffering a 27-0 loss last year before gaining a measure of redemption with a 25-18 win in the CCS title game.
Since falling by a point to Dublin, Milpitas has outscored its last two opponents 62-0. The Cowboys have given up 76 points in two losses.
Dating back to last year, Salinas has won its last five road games.
Jacob Vargas made the most of his four completions in a recent game for Milpitas, as three went for touchdowns.
Salinas has been its own worst enemy with six turnovers in two games. That doesn't count the five fumbles that weren't lost.
Sophomore Jeff Schaffer was brought up last week for Salinas and responded with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown. Transfer receiver Roderick Gaskins ran for 99 yards against Clovis.
Establishing the passing game early has been a priority. But Gaskins and Schaffer were impressive in their debuts in the backfield for Salinas.
