Friday's game
Pacific Grove (2-2) at North County (2-3), 7:30 p.m.
The Breakers ran into a defensive wall last week in being held to minus rushing yards. This is not an offense geared to win games threw the air.
Meanwhile the defense gave up 228 yards on the ground and nearly 350 yards in offense in a loss to San Lorenzo Valley.
Pacific Grove's passing game is predicated on its ability to run the ball. But if opponents dare to put eight or nine in the box, it has to gain their respect.
The Condors don't have the offensive firepower to spot teams 20 points, as was the case in a Cypress Division opening loss to Monterey last week.
Quarterback Brandon Ducusin has rushed for a team high 208 yards and five touchdowns for North County while throwing for 380 yards.
The strength of the Condors has been their defense, where Riley Anderson is among the state leaders in tackles with 90 in five games. Konan Van Lear has compiled eight sacks.
Anthony DaSilva needs touches to get the Breakers ground game going. That will create more looks downfield for quarterback Freddy Albert, whose favorite target has become Blake Moore.
The last time these two teams were members of the same division was in 1979 when North County won the Mission Trail Athletic League title.
