The former Salinas quarterback was a bright spot in a somber season opener for Willamette, completing 50 percent of his passes for 149 yards, while rushing for the teams only touchdown.
The junior is coming off a season in which he threw for 1,326 yards and seven touchdowns, while rushing for 71 yards and five touchdowns for the Bearcats.
Castaneda threw for a school record 2,436 yards and 29 touchdowns during his senior year at Salinas, while rushing for 521 yards and six more touchdowns, earning a spot on The Herald’s All-County football team.
