Marina-Harker football

Friday's game
Marina (2-0) at Harker (2-1), 7 p.m.
The Mariners are in uncharted waters, 2-0 for the first time in school history, having yet to allow a point this season -- the programs first two shutouts ever.
Dating back to last year Marina has won a school record six straight games. Prior to the streak, the program had captured nine games in 77 career kickoffs.
A member of the Freelance League of the North Coast Section, the San Jose-based private school is coming off an 11-1 season, with the only loss occurring in the NCS divisional finals.
Part of last year's 11 game winning streak was a 30-0 decision over Marina. Since an opening season loss, Harker has won its last two games, outscoring opponents 62-24.
Quarterback Anthony Meissner is capable of torching opponents, having thrown for 500 yards and five touchdown passes, with all five scoring tosses going to Jared Anderson.
Meissner has also rushed 120 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles, who have rushed for 455 yards as a team.
Sophomore quarterback Michael Barrera has accounted for seven touchdowns either threw the air or on the ground for Marina, with 245 pound fullback Izzy Guizar rushing for a pair last week.
No doubt, last year's strong finish has brought confidence into this season for the Mariners. Yet, the one significant difference this fall has been that defense, led by Guizar and Ernie Guevara.
What Marina can't do Friday is commit 90 yards in penalties in the first half like it did in last week's win over Lynbrook.
